Loyola women rip Iona, 71-58


Junior forward Jennifer Bongard scored a season-high 23 points, and senior center Mary Ann Kirsch added 17, all in the second half, to power Loyola past Iona, 71-58, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game yesterday at Mulcahy Center in New Rochelle, N.Y.

The Greyhounds (10-4, 3-3) ended a two-game skid, and the Gaels (6-8, 3-3) lost their seventh consecutive game to the Greyhounds.

Johns Hopkins 49, Carnegie Mellon 39: Leslie Ritter scored 15, as the Blue Jays (11-3, 5-3) beat the host Tartans for their seventh straight win in a University Athletic Association game. Ritter ranks 10th among the Blue Jays' all-time scoring leaders with 822 career points.

Bowie State 83, Felician College 52: Rashida Brooks and Tiffany Moss each scored 14 as the Bulldogs (13-3) won in the first round of the J.P. Lawrence Tournament in Takoma Park.


Johns Hopkins 69, Carnegie Mellon 50: Nino Vanin scored a career-high 26, 15 in the first half, as the Blue Jays (11-3, 6-2) downed the Tartans (3-9, 1-3) in University Athletic Association action.

UDC 67, Bowie State 58: Tosin Sonoiki scored 19 as the Firebirds (6-10) edged the visiting Bulldogs (1-15) in the opening round of the Columbia Union Tournament in Takoma Park.
