A decisive 21-4 run midway through the second half propelled first-place Mount St. Mary's to a 76-62 victory last night over second-place St. Francis, Pa., in a Northeast Conference game in Loretto, Pa.
Megan Gardiner scored 19 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Mount (10-4, 8-0) to its ninth straight win and second in a row over the three-time defending league champs.
The Red Flash (7-8, 6-3) trailed 43-41 with 16: 19 left, but went 0-for-7 from the field over the next four minutes as the Mountaineers scored 11 straight points to pull ahead, 54-41.
North Carolina State 73, Maryland 45: Junior center Summer Erb scored 23 points as the Wolfpack won for sixth time in seven games in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Cole Field House.
Erb, the ACC scoring and rebounding leader, had 18 in the first half, when the Wolfpack (9-6, 3-3) broke open a tight game with a 12-1 run to lead 48-32 at halftime.
The Terps (2-13, 0-6) shot just 36 percent and were led by Kelley Gibson's 14 points.
Hartford 71, Towson 40: The Hawks (6-6, 3-1) held the host Tigers (8-5, 3-2) to 24.6 percent shooting on the way to an America East win.
The loss ended Towson's three-game winning streak.
Salisbury State 98, Marymount 71: Lisa Neylan scored 29 points and Elisabeth Barfuss added 20 to lead the Sea Gulls (9-3, 3-0) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
