The diverse worlds of offshore and inshore sport fishing come indoors on Jan. 23 when Salt Water Sportsman magazine brings its national seminar series to College Park.
The six-hour program will feature senior editor George Poveromo, publisher-at-large Spider Andresen and a group of top-notch Chesapeake Bay and coastal captains.
The courses are designed to cover the how, where and why of catching game fish from the offshore canyons to the upper Chesapeake using the latest techniques, tackle and strategies.
For Chesapeake Bay fishing, the seminar has enlisted Maryland charter captains Henry Gootee (middle and lower bay), Ed Darwin (Poplar Island to Patpsco River), Ed O'Brien (middle bay) and Peter T. Dressler (light tackle specialist).
Ocean City experts Robby Paquette and Mark Sampson will teach sessions on billfish, tuna and sharks.
Sessions will be taught on using water temperature and electronics to locate fish, how to get stubborn fish to bite, using live and artificial baits, tactics for small boats offshore, using planners and downriggers, kite fishing, chunking and chumming and where to catch fish in your area.
The seminars will be held at the Stamp Student Union, University of Maryland, from 9 a.m to 4 p.m.
Tickets are $40 and can be purchased by calling 1-800-448-7360. The ticket price includes an excellent book covering bay and ocean species and techniques and a subscription to Salt Water Sportsman.
