Frostburg upsets M. Washington

Alan Moore scored 22 points last night to lead host Frostburg State to a 93-88 upset of Mary Washington, which was ranked No. 22 in Division III, in the opening round of the 84 Lumber Classic.

The Bobcats (5-4) advance to play Wilberforce today in the title game. Mary Washington (5-2) turned the ball over 36 times.

Johns Hopkins 58, University of Chicago 57: Junior forward Joel Wertman scored a game-high 21 points and added eight rebounds to power Johns Hopkins (8-2, 3-2) past visiting Chicago.

The Blue Jays' victory ended a 27-game University Athletic Association winning streak for the Maroons, who previously hadn't lost a league game since their first UAA game of the 1996-97 season.

Women

Johns Hopkins 69, University of Chicago 55: Junior guard Leslie Ritter scored a game-high 21 points to lead three scorers in double figures as the host Blue Jays (9-1, 4-1) knocked off Chicago (3-7, 0-1) in a UAA game.

Rensselaer 73, Salisbury State 66: Holly Neiween scored 22 to power the visiting Engineers (6-1) past the Sea Gulls (6-3) in the opening round of the Grotto Pizza Classic in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Elisabeth Barfuss led Salisbury with 20 points.
