A Westminster man received a one-year jail sentence yesterday after he was found guilty of causing a serious automobile accident while intoxicated in July.
Michael Brian Owens, 34, was convicted of causing life-threatening injuries while intoxicated, which carries a possible sentence of three years' imprisonment, and was sentenced by Carroll Circuit Judge Raymond E. Beck Sr.
Owens had a 0.22 blood alcohol level, according to a statement of facts by Assistant State's Attorney David P. Daggett.
The two-vehicle collision occurred July 16 on Route 97, south of Westminster near Nicodemus Road. Police said Owens' Chevrolet van was traveling north at 9: 48 p.m. when it swerved into the southbound lane and struck a Ford Bronco.
The driver of the Bronco and three passengers were injured, Daggett said. One of them was hospitalized for 13 days with severe blood loss and uses a wheelchair because of a leg injury.
