The Retrievers (6-5, 5-0) used an 11-2 run to take a 30-20 lead with 5: 15 left in the first half and were ahead 39-29 at halftime.
The Seahawks (3-8, 1-4) were within 44-37 when UMBC scored five points on a layup by Okafor, two free throws after a technical foul was charged against the Wagner bench and a free throw on the ensuing possession.
The Retrievers shot 56 percent for the game (26-for-46).
Frantz Pierre-Louis had 18 points and eight rebounds for Wagner.
Iona 83, Loyola 71: Jason Young scored 17 points and the Gaels (5-7, 2-2) used a 20-2 run in the second half to take control of the game and beat the Greyhounds (5-5, 0-3) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Tariq Kirksay added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Gaels (5-7, 2-1), who had lost six of their past seven games.
Jason Rowe had 26 points for the Greyhounds (5-5, 0-3), who led by as many as eight points in the first half before settling for a 43-42 halftime lead.
Long Island U. 83, Mount St. Mary's 65: Richie Parker was 10-for-12 from the field and scored 30 points as the Blackbirds ended a five-game losing streak with a win over the Mountaineers in New York.
Parker, who was also 10-for-13 from the free-throw line, had 21 points in the first half when the Blackbirds (2-9, 2-3 Northeast Conference) built a 43-23 lead.
Terrence Wilson and Melvin Whitaker each had 14 points and Greg Harris added 13 for the Mountaineers (4-7, 2-3), who lost their third straight.
Fred Warrick scored 16 to lead Coppin State, which shot just 32 percent for the game, and 28 percent in the second half.
