Nonprofit awarded grant to aid homeless

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., a private, nonprofit organization based in Westminster, has been awarded a $123,000 state grant to assist the homeless.

The grant, awarded by the Maryland Department of Human Resources, will sustain funding for a part-time counselor and case manager for three years.

Both will assist individuals and families trying to move out of homeless shelters, said Kathy Bitzer, deputy director of shelter and housing for Human Services Programs Inc.

Bitzer said the organization helps 60 to 70 people each year find affordable housing and get assistance from other charitable and government services.
