Cecil E. Flamer, a partner in Ernst & Young LLP, an accounting firm, has been elected president and chairman of the board of trustees of the Enoch Pratt Free Library.

A graduate of Morgan State University, Flamer is a member of the Board of Governors of the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Joining Flamer on the library board will be Margot Heller, vice president and chairman designate; Antonia Keane and J. Tyson Tildon, vice presidents; Myron Oppenheimer, treasurer; and Sandra Gohn, secretary.

TOWSON -- County residents whose trash normally would be collected Friday should set out their trash on Friday night for pickup on Saturday, the day after Christmas.

Residents with recycling materials that normally would be collected on Friday are asked to hold on to the materials until the next scheduled pickup day.

The same schedule will apply next week for New Year's Day.

Senior centers to offer meals on Christmas


TOWSON -- Three county senior centers will be open Christmas Day from 11: 30 a.m. until 2 p.m., with a holiday meal served at 12: 30 p.m.

The centers are Bykota Senior Center, 611 Central Ave., Towson Essex Senior Center, 600 Dorsey Ave. (410-887- 0267); and Catonsville Senior Center, 501 N. Rolling Road (410- 887-0900).

Advance reservations are required for dinner, and donations are requested from county residents over 60. Participants younger than 60 must pay the full cost of the dinner, $4.86. Transportation is available on a limited basis.

Old Court School plans African celebration


PIKESVILLE -- Old Court Middle School will conduct its fourth annual African celebration todayfrom 8: 30 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m.

Activities have been planned for the day, which is called "Africa: More than a Continent." Students will learn about the people and cultures of Africa through speakers, performers and hands-on workshops.
