Mary Clementine Selby enters her second century of life Christmas Eve, but she does not plan a big celebration.
"I am a stay-homer," she said. "Our family never made a fuss over birthdays."
She does not want to infringe on the holiday plans of her friends and neighbors at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster, where she has lived for eight years.
"Aunt Clemmie" -- as she is known to nearly all -- attended a family get-together in her honor yesterday at her nephew's home in Mount Airy.
All she wants for her Christmas and birthday gift is "to keep my health as good as I can."
Selby lived most of her life on a farm in Lisbon, where she was born the fourth of 10 children. She rarely left the farm, never learned to drive, never married and has never eaten at a fast-food restaurant.
She attributes her longevity to a simple lifestyle and good eating habits.
"I eat what is on the table and plenty of it," she said. "I might use a cane, but I get around pretty well."
Selby enjoys a lively game of cards, and "plays a wicked hand of 500 and solitaire," said her niece Belle Holt.
When she officially is 100, Selby does not plan major life changes.
"I enjoy my life my way," she said. "I have done it all."
