Getty deserves cheers for action on per diem
How refreshing to read of the actions of Del. Joseph M. Getty of Carroll County.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if our representatives in Washington would imitate his actions the next time they vote themselves another undeserved raise?
One can dream.

Isn't it refreshing to hear about an elected representative in Maryland, or anywhere for that matter, who places principles and integrity above political party loyalty? Three rousing cheers for Del. Joseph M. Getty of Carroll County.
Mr. Getty should be an inspiration to all of those elected federal officials who want to place party loyalty first in dealing with President Clinton's impeachment proceedings.
To use party loyalty, as appears to be the case at this point, and the results of unnamed polls as the reason to excuse Mr. Clinton's behavior seems close to ludicrous.
Whenever political poll results are given under these circumstances, the adage "figures don't lie but liars figure" comes to mind.
Let us hope that Congress concludes these proceedings with dispatch and nonpartisan responsibility and restores respect and dignity to both branches of government.
