Charles Dickens

(1812-1870)

"A Christmas Carol," written in only a few weeks, was the first and most warmly remembered of Dickens' annual Christmas novels.

In it, ghosts escort Scrooge, a grumpy miser, on visions featuring his past, present and future.

By visiting his youth, Scrooge remembers his vulnerability. By seeing inside the home of his employee, Scrooge learns that true wealth comes from the love of one's family.

Lastly Scrooge sees the mournless death he will have if he does not learn to be kind to others. He awakes from the visions filled with generosity and joy.
