On a healthy roll: organic cookies
Slice-and-bake cookies now have a healthy, home-grown touch - just in time for the holidays. Cooks can get the fresh-baked flavors of cookies made from all-natural, organic ingredients by former Baltimorean Maury Rubin, a graduate of Milford Mill High School and the University of Maryland, College Park.
The cookies - sold by Rubin at the City Bakery in Manhattan - are available in refrigerated rolls called Maury's Cookie Dough at Fresh Fields in Mount Washington and other stores in the Mid-Atlantic region. Each roll, which costs $4.69, promises "15 big cookies." Varieties include chocolate chip, gingerbread and oatmeal raisin. A sugar cookie soon will follow.
Cooking to a beat
For the music and food lover on your gift-giving list, the "Cooking Christmas" series offers a compact disc of holiday music - including classics like "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Kenny G and "Silent Night" by Melissa Manchester - along with a miniature cookbook of such tempting recipes as sweet potato and leek soup with sage and smoked turkey, or grilled lamb chops with sweet mint and basil chili glaze.
Two packages, "Cooking Christmas" and "Cookin' Up a Country Christmas," are available at $16.98 each (plus $3 for shipping; no shipping charge for orders of two or more). Call 800-914-3990.
