Former Annapolis City Administrator John L. Prehn Jr. will head an advisory committee that Mayor Dean L. Johnson formed to establish policy on handling the hundreds of events the city plays host to every year.
Johnson announced yesterday the 13 members of the committee, which will examine how many events take place in Annapolis, their effect on the community and who pays for the services the city sometimes has to provide, such as trash removal or police overtime for crowd or traffic control.
The committee will evaluate whether to reschedule some events or change their venues, Johnson said.
City spokesman Thomas W. Roskelly said Johnson selected people with a wide range of backgrounds.
"He wanted to have some folks that had some experience either as event promoters or participants or as event complainers," Roskelly said. "It's a bunch of pretty reasonable people who have the interests of the community at heart."
In addition to Prehn, who also is past president of the Ward One Residents Association, other committee members are:
Jeff Bishop, vice president of St. John's College; Minor Carter, president of the Ward One Residents Association; McShane Glover, an event organizer; Andie McCullars, president of the Eastport Business Association; Shawn James, president of the Germantown-Homewood Community Association; and Bertina Nick of the Clay Street Association.
Also: Mike Parker, who worked on a committee that dealt with city events during former Mayor Richard Hillman's term; David Stahl, former president of the Eastport Civic Association; Larry Vincent, who owns Laurance Clothing on Main Street; Peggy Wall, executive director of the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Center; and downtown residents Bill Brill and Ted Grier.
Roskelly said Prehn is calling the other committee members to set up the first meeting.
