A motorist stopped by a Sykesville officer operating a radar trap last week was arrested on drug charges, according to police.
Officer Shawn D. Kilgore was operating a radar unit on Obrecht Road east of Harlan Lane at 5:50 p.m. Thursday when a white Subaru passed. In charging documents, Kilgore said the car was traveling 43 mph in a 25-mph zone.
After stopping the car, Kilgore learned from Motor Vehicle Administration records that the motorist was driving with a suspended license. The officer also detected an odor he suspected was marijuana from a book bag on the passenger seat. Kilgore said he searched the book bag and found three bags of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Michael A. Wilbur, 20, of New Windsor was arrested on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance and various traffic violations, Kilgore said.
