Wise and Burke promoted at Union National Bank

James C. Wise has been named vice president, director of marketing and a member of the management team at Union National Bank.

He joined the bank Oct. 13. He has 36 years' experience in the banking industry, many of those in Carroll County.

Wise has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. He also is a graduate of the School of Bank Marketing at the University of Colorado and the Maryland/Virginia School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia.

He is married and lives in Gettysburg, Pa., but is active in several Carroll civic organizations.

The bank also promoted Barbara R. Burke to assistant vice president, where she will manage alternative investment sales. She joined the bank May 25.

Burke has a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and is a registered investment adviser. She has been in the banking industry since 1985.

Board approves actions involving liquor licenses

The Board of License Commissioners for Carroll County has HTC approved the application or transfer of several liquor licenses.

Paul N. Strine Jr. and Sidney D. Lease Jr. applied for a transfer of a Class A beer, wine and liquor license for the New Windsor Carry-out at 409 High St. The store is at 105 Church St. and expected to move in April.

Robin Lea Taylor applied to add her name to the Class B beer, wine and liquor license at Taneytown Bear Creek Inn at 5525 Taneytown Pike. She has been working at the inn as a manager and bartender and is buying stock in the business.

Doris W. Harner's name was removed from the license, to be replaced by Taylor's. The other license holder for the inn is Brett Spedden.

Scott Bartol asked the board to remove his name from the Class B beer, wine and liquor license at Bachman Valley Inn in Manchester. He was replaced by Richard Daniel Nave, who is buying 10 percent of the inn's parent company, Shady Springs Inc.

Christine M. Crockett, Calvin C. Buettner and Dorie P. Naor applied as Class B beer, wine and liquor license holders for Encore at 2876 Baltimore Blvd., Finksburg. Encore will be operated under Marsel Enterprises. The applicants have experience in the restaurant business.
