THE BALTIMORE SUN

A junior at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County suffered severe cuts to the neck during a dispute early yesterday in a campus residence hall, a college spokesman said.

Kevin W. Blackistone, 20, a junior visual arts major from Avenue, St. Mary's County, was in stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, said UMBC spokesman John Fritz.

Brian J. Keenan, 18, a freshman English major from Myersville, Frederick County, suffered cuts on a hand and was being treated at St. Agnes HealthCare, Fritz said.

According to Fritz, a fight broke out about 5: 30 a.m. in Keenan's room in Chesapeake Residence Hall. He said the cause of the dispute is unknown, but UMBC police said alcohol was involved.

Fritz said that according to investigators, Keenan was seen holding a folding lock-back knife and allegedly threatening Blackistone, who lives in Hillside Apartments.

Keenan has been barred from campus for alleged violations of the student conduct code, Fritz said.
