A Westminster man awaiting trial on four cases, including arson and auto theft, was charged Friday on 57 additional counts stemming from 29 incidents of vehicle tampering in June, court records show.
Additional bond of $25,000 was set on Christopher L. Myers, 19, of the 2600 block of Old New Windsor Pike. He was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center in lieu of $130,000 bail on the previous charges.
Myers was arrested July 30 after an intensive three-day manhunt. He was charged with setting fire to the New Windsor home of his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his son.
In the latest charges, Myers is accused of stealing two cars, multiple counts of malicious destruction and theft, most stemming from a June 17 tampering spree.
Police allege Myers entered or tried to enter 29 locked and unlocked vehicles between 4: 31 a.m. and 8: 49 p.m. June 17. Some of the incidents were only minutes apart and continued throughout the day.
Most of the tampering incidents occurred in the neighborhoods of Furnace Hills and The Greens of Westminster. One incident occurred June 22 in The Greens.
Police reported that loose change, cellular phones and stereo equipment were taken from vehicles. Two Honda cars were stolen.
Police said a man fled on a bicycle after setting a fire at the home of Myers' ex-girlfriend's home. State Police used bloodhounds, a helicopter and about 15 troopers to track the suspect in thick woods along the Maryland Midland Railway and a tributary of Little Pipe Creek.
