ADAM MAZUREK, manager of the Linthicum branch library, will tell Polish Christmas stories and explain the customs mentioned in them during this month's meeting of the Woman's Club of Linthicum at 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday at the clubhouse, 110 N. Hammonds Ferry Road.
Mazurek, who has 20 years of experience in the county system as a children's librarian and a branch manager, has managed the Linthicum branch for nine years. His interest in storytelling dates to when he attended the Kosciuszko Foundation's 1974 Student Summer Session at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.
He has told stories at the Museum of American History and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Festival of Trees, Baltimore's Polish festivals and other festivals, senior centers and schools in the region.
To set the tone for the theme of "Twas the Night Before a Polish Christmas," the clubhouse will be decorated with Polish artifacts, and club members will model authentic costumes on loan from the Ojczyzna Polish Folk Song and Dance Ensemble of Baltimore.
Dennis Klima, artistic director of the ensemble, will describe the costumes and the eight regions they represent. Klima is one of the few Americans to be certified at the Marie Curie Skowdowska Institute in Poland to teach folk dancing.

Christmas tours
The Christmas season is a creative and festive time for two families in Linthicum, Dale and Millie Townsend and Steve and Loretta Cieslak, as reflected in how they decorate their homes. Both families are opening their houses at 502 and 503 E. Maple Road for tours from 3: 30 p.m. to 6: 30 p.m. Dec. 13.
The event is a fund-raising project for House of Hope, a program for homeless men in north county, according to Connie Perry of the missions committee of Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church, the event's sponsor.
Perry said the church has an agreement with House of Hope to help raise money for a permanent shelter to be built in Glen Burnie. Linthicum Heights United Methodist and other north county churches have provided shelters for homeless men during the winter during the past several years.
Admission is $1 per house. Nonperishable food also will be accepted for North County Emergency Outreach Network.
