Scholarship fund gets grant, plans career conference

The Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Fund of Columbia has received a project grant from the Columbia Foundation and will sponsor a career-planning conference at Wilde Lake High School Jan. 23.

The conference will be designed to provide about 150 ninth- and 10th-grade students with an overview of career opportunities, the academic requirements and the importance of preparing for the future.

Role models will be presented, and a follow-up mentoring program is planned.

Information is available from county high school offices and community organizations.

HCC professor named Outstanding Faculty Member

Mary Alice Jost, assistant professor of biology at Howard Community College, has been named Outstanding Faculty Member for this academic year.

The West Friendship resident is a graduate of the college and received a bachelor's degree in biological science and a master's degree in biology from Towson University.

A faculty member at the college since 1986, she teaches general biology, fundamentals of microbiology and oceanography.
