ONE OF THE mainstays of the holiday season takes place Sunday when Taneytown Community Chorus presents its annual Advent-Christmas Concert at Grace United Church of Christ, 49 W. Baltimore St.
The 25-member group will present 19 seasonal songs starting at 3 p.m. in the handicapped-accessible facility. This is the 19th annual holiday performance for the group.
Anna Motter directs the group, assisted by her son, David, and Fairy Flickinger is the organist.
Refreshments will be served after the concert, child care is available, and an offering will be taken to benefit Caring and Sharing Ministries of Taneytown.
Fresh fruit sale
Kiwanis Club of Taneytown is holding its annual fresh fruit sale this weekend at Taneytown Shopping Center.
Cost of items for full and half boxes are: navel oranges, $17 and
$8.75; Hamlin oranges, $13 and $7; tangelos, $16 and $8.50; red grapefruit, $14 and $7.50; white grapefruit, $12 and $6.50; tangerines, $25 and $13. Mixed cases will be offered.
Fruit may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and may be paid for by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.
Money from the sale helps benefit youth programs and needy families in the area.

Piney Creek Church of the Brethren on Teeter Road between Taneytown and Littlestown, Pa., will hold a Christmas bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Crafts, baked goods, homemade apple butter and food will be served. Activities for children will be available.
Contact Santa Claus
Area children have two ways to contact Santa Claus this year: in person or by letter.
Santa will be at Jubilee in Taneytown Shopping Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays until Christmas.
Don't have time to stop by in person?
Address a letter to Santa at the Taneytown post office, and his elves will write back. Make sure the letter has a complete name dTC and mailing address for the child. Letters should arrive at the post office as early as possible to ensure the reply is received before the big day.

Taneytown Economic Development Commission will hold the holiday puppet show "Pigs from the Pole" at 7 p.m. today at Taneytown Elementary School.
A children's decorated cookie contest will be judged at 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at Taneytown Senior Center on Roberts Mill Road.
Cookies will be judged by seniors and prizes will be given by the Economic Development Commission.
Corky's Mitten Tree
Corky's Mitten Tree is awaiting contributions at the Taneytown branch of the Carroll County public library.
Handmade or store-bought gloves, scarves and hats for children or adults may be placed on the tree through Jan. 2 for distribution by Neighbors in Need of Carroll County.
