After conquering music with the chart-topping album "Never Say Never" and television with UPN's top-rated comedy, "Moesha," Brandy Norwood has worked up an appetite for a new challenge.
Fans can catch Brandy feeding her big-screen hunger in the thriller "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" (R). She plays Jennifer Love Hewitt's bubbly college roommate, Karla Wilson.
"It was the coolest experience for me," Brandy said. "It was definitely a lot more difficult and a lot more physical than a TV show. I But I would do another one in a minute!"
Brandy, 19, was born in McComb, Miss., she started singing gospel in a church choir directed by her father when she was way little. At 10, her family moved to Carson, Calif., so the young dreamer could chase the stars. Five years later she became one with the release of her debut album, "Brandy," which sold more than 3 million copies.
Brandy is most proud of her recent role in the TV version of "Cinderella," with her idol Whitney Houston.
"Being the first African-American Cinderella, I can't see anybody offering me something better than that," she said.
Brandy got tripped up learning to scream for "Summer."
"Because I'm a singer I never would scream, because I think that's bad for your voice," she said. But for this role, "I worked with a coach who taught me about screaming and tensing up."
Brandy had a blast filming the frightening storm sequences on location in Mexico. "Falling and running and stuff, that's fun. The only thing that was irritating was being wet and running in wet clothes."
She also enjoyed getting to know scream queen Hewitt. "She was exactly like me and that's a cool thing."
