Beane's 2 TDs aren't enough for Shepherd in playoff loss Slippery Rock moves on in Div. II with 31-20 win

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Damian Beane (Baltimore City Community College) gave Shepherd the lead twice, but the Rams (10-2) fell to Slippery Rock, 31-20, in an NCAA Division II quarterfinal game yesterday.

Slippery Rock scored twice in the last five minutes on Stan Kennedy's two short touchdown runs.

Beane gave Shepherd a 7-0 lead on its first possession with an 8-yard touchdown run at the 9: 44 mark, and a 20-17 lead on a 29-yard run with 7: 49 left to play. Bean finished with a 148 yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns.

Shepherd quarterback Matt Davis (Overlea) went 12-for-28 for 175 yards and a touchdown. James Rooths (Carver) returned four punts for 46 yards and had an interception.
