Elmer H. Wavering, 91, the former president of Motorola Inc. who helped develop the first commercially successful car radio, died Friday in Schaumburg, Ill.

Joseph Madison "Scoop" Jones Jr., 81, who founded the New Orleans Data Newsweekly, a black newspaper, in 1967, died Thursday.

The lifelong New Orleans resident earned his nickname in the 1930s when he was the first photojournalist on the scene of a Natchez, Miss., dance hall fire that killed scores of people. His pictures were widely distributed.
