Tutors Needed

Area schools, libraries and literacy programs use volunteers to help children and adults improve reading skills.

Among them are:

St. Jerome's Head Start, 915 Sterrett St., Baltimore, for a program teaching reading to elementary school pupils. Volunteers are needed from 3: 15 p.m. to 5: 15 p.m. Thursdays. Contact: Mary Gunning, 410-685-1700.

The League for People With Disabilities, 1111 E. Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, for tutoring physically disabled adults in reading and other areas for the General Educational Development test. Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. other weekdays. Contact: Marlene Hendler, 410-323-0500.
