Jerome A. Laroque Jr., 74, printing broker

Jerome Achille Laroque Jr., a semiretired printing broker and former Baltimorean, died Monday of a heart attack at Paoli (Pa.) Memorial Hospital. He was 74 and lived in Malvern, Pa.

Born in Augusta, Ga., and raised on Evesham Avenue in Baltimore, he attended Polytechnic Institute and earned a high school diploma while serving in the Army during World War II. He earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola College in 1950.

Mr. Laroque owned and operated J. A. Laroque & Co., printing brokers in Philadelphia, and at his death was semiretired.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered today in Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Mary Isabel Meade; two sons, Jerome A. Laroque III of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Hugh M. Laroque of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; five daughters, Mary Belle Laroque of Malvern, Anne Gasbarro of Fairfield, N.J., Jeanne McClave and Kathleen Simons, both of Phoenixville, Pa., and Carolyn Laroque of Audubon, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

Wenzell Edward Carter Sr., 75, barber, teacher

Wenzell Edward Carter Sr., a retired barber and World War II TC veteran, died Monday of cancer at Fort Howard Veterans Hospital. He was 75.

The longtime West Baltimore resident operated Carter's Barber Shop on Appleton Street for 40 years and retired in 1996.

Born in Gloucester County, Va., he was a graduate of public schools there. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific as a cook. He was discharged in 1946.

Mr. Carter studied barbering at Apex Beauty and Barber School, where he became an instructor.

Services will be held at 6: 30 p.m. tomorrow at March Funeral Home Inc., 4300 Wabash Ave.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Mary Belle White; a son, Wenzell Edward Carter Jr. of Utica, N.Y.; a daughter, Mary Ann Carter of Baltimore; and a sister, Wenona Harrison of New York City.
