Hopkins scores 6 in second half, tops Bethany, 6-5

Teddy Zingman scored three goals to power a second-half surge as Johns Hopkins rallied to defeat Bethany, 6-5, in a men's NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional semifinal at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., last night.

Hopkins, which scored all of its goals in the second half, faces host Messiah in tonight's final at 7.

Hopkins' Matt Doran scored the game-winner at the 84: 11 mark.

The Blue Jays (18-1-1) set a school record for most victories in a season and the combined 11 goals tied an NCAA record for most goals in a game. The record was accomplished three times previously, most recently by Kenyon and Wooster in 1990.

Bethany (17-3) took a 2-0 lead at the half on goals by Dale Beattie and Stuart Bracher. The Blue Jays scored four of the first five goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half, including two by Zingman. Pat Michel added two goals for the Blue Jays.

The Bison took a 5-4 lead at the 76: 04 mark on Michel's second goal before Zingman scored the tying goal.
