Terps win ACC field hockey title in OT, 1-0

THE BALTIMORE SUN

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Rachel Hiskins scored on Maryland's only shot of overtime to lift the Terps to the Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey championship yesterday with a 1-0 win over No. 2-ranked Virginia.

After a scoreless regulation, No. 7 Maryland (16-5) was awarded a penalty corner with just over five minutes left in the extra period that Hiskins converted off an assist from Caroline Walter.

The top-seeded Cavaliers (16-4) outshot the Terps 11-3, including 7-1 in the second half, but couldn't beat goalkeeper Angela Platt, who made five saves.

The Terps' Jen Pratt was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and was joined by Platt, Walter and Autumn Welsh on the all-tournament team.
