Freshman Taylor Twellman scored on a penalty kick at the 14: 09 mark of the first half yesterday to give host Maryland a 1-0 men's soccer win over Michigan State at Ludwig Field.
Twellman capitalized when a Spartans player was whistled for a hand ball while in the box. Twellman beat goalkeeper T. J. Lieckfelt for the score.
Maryland outshot the Spartans (7-11), 14-6.
The Terps (12-6) will enter this week's ACC tournament in Winston-Salem, N.C., as the No. 5 seed and will play North Carolina on Thursday at 8 p.m.
Washington 4, Western Maryland 2: Senior forward Dan Gerbasi scored three goals and added an assist to help visiting Washington College (8-11, 4-5) beat Western Maryland (9-11, 1-8).
Justin Daniel opened the scoring in the game's 12th minute off an assist by Gerbasi. Gerbasi then scored twice to give the Shoremen a 3-0 halftime lead.
Frostburg State 3, LaRoche College 2: Matt Saunders scored two goals and Patrick Hennigan (Calvert Hall) had one as No. 1 seed Frostburg State (15-5) turned back No. 5 seed LaRoche TTC College (7-13) in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference semifinals.

Navy 2, Army 0: Navy advanced to the Patriot League championship game with a win over Army at Dewey Field.
Anne Kipp opened the scoring at the 13: 13 mark of the first half, and freshman Justine Fisher gave the Mids (17-2-1) some insurance with a goal at the 43: 48 mark.
Navy faces the Colgate-Holy Cross winner at 3 p.m. today.
