Loyola received goals from three players on the way to a 3-0 win yesterday over St. Peter's in the semifinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic women's soccer tournament in Fairfield, Conn.
Melissa Martenak's goal at 9: 34 gave Loyola (10-7-2) a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Karen Giusti and Nina Tinari added goals in the 57th and 58th minutes, respectively.
Loyola plays Fairfield in tomorrow's championship at noon.
UMBC 3, Quinnipiac 0: Renny Trellis had a goal and an assist as the Retrievers (12-7) advanced to the Northeast Conference finals in New Britain, Conn.
Jessica Phoebus scored in the ninth minute for the eventual game-winning goal. UMBC plays host to Central Connecticut State at noon tomorrow.
Men's soccer
Rider 2, Loyola 1: Mark Bennett's goal with 9: 25 left put the host Broncs (11-7-1) into tomorrow's MAAC championship game against Fairfield. Loyola (11-8-2) trailed 1-0 before Miguel Abreu scored in the 76th minute.
St. Francis, N.Y. 4, UMBC 0: Senior Dmitri Petrouniak scored three times in leading the top-seeded and host Terriers (14-5-1) over the fourth-seeded Retrievers (11-7-2) in a Northeast Conference tournament semifinal. St. Francis broke from a scoreless first half with three straight goals by Petrouniak during a 19-minute span in the second half.
Field hockey
Maryland 2, North Carolina 1, 3 OT: Jen Pratt scored in the fifth frame of penalty stroke play, lifting the Terps over the Tar Heels in the semifinals of the ACC tournament in Charlottesville, Va.
Pratt's stroke sent Maryland (15-5) into the final against top-seeded Virginia tomorrow at 3: 30 p.m., and dealt the Tar Heels their first tourney loss since 1993.
Rachel Hiskins scored the tying goal in regulation with 31 seconds remaining in the first half.
The two teams were scoreless through the second half and two overtimes, before Maryland won the penalty phase, four goals to three.
