OysterFest

Celebrate the historical, commercial and culinary lure of the oyster at the 11th annual OysterFest Saturday at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels. Throughout the day, watch as watermen demonstrate traditional oyster tonging techniques or nippering for oysters. There will be working skipjack captains, lighthouse keepers, clammers and engine repairmen on hand to discuss how they make a living on the bay. And don't miss the oyster-shell skipping contests, shucking demonstrations and the Oyster Soup Cook-Off. You'll also be able to feast on raw, roasted and fried oysters and oyster stew and take a ride on the museum's buyboat replica, Mister Jim.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is on Mill Street. The festival is included in regular museum admission of $7.50, $6.50 seniors, $3 ages 6-17, free for kids under 6. For one-stop shopping that will take you to more than 20 stores, attend Hagley's Festival of Museum Shopping this weekend at the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington. Gift shops from 21 regional museums will set up temporary "satellite" shops in Hagley's Library building and Soda House along the Brandywine River. Choose from gifts of art, history, fine food, science, music and more. And for lunch, enjoy bistro fare in Hagley's Fleur-de-Lis Cafe.

Shops will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. To attend the festival, enter from Buck Road East off Route 100; free shuttle service between buildings. Admission is $4, free for children under 6. Call 302-658-2400.
