Chesapeake shuts out Annapolis McIntyre and Abey lead Cougars' victory; Soccer roundup

Mike McIntyre and Dustin Abey each had a goal and an assist as the host, No. 8-ranked Chesapeake Cougars (13-2) rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Annapolis Panthers in Class 4A East quarterfinal.

Chesapeake scored 11 seconds into the game when Chris Watson converted off a pass from Abey. McIntrye scored his team-leading 19th goal in the 49th minute.

South River 2, Wicomico 0: Goals by Clayton Brault and Sean Bredbenner gave the Seahawks (5-9) the Class 2A East quarterfinal victory. Bredbenner's first-half goal was his fourth of the playoffs.

Arch. Curley 3, Loyola 0

McDonogh 2, Calvert Hall 9: Steve Althoff, Steve Novak and George Bakoulas scored as No. 1-ranked Archbishop Curley (17-0-1) defeated No. 11 Loyola, 3-0, yesterday to advance to Saturday's Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference tournament title game.

That 6: 30 p.m. game at Johns Hopkins University will be against No. 2 McDonogh, which defeated No. 9 Calvert Hall, 3-1, in yesterday's other tournament semifinal.

The title game will be a rematch of the final regular-season contest between the two schools last Saturday, which Curley won at home, 3-1.
