A group of volunteers who collect new clothing for the needy has distributed 7,643 items to various charities, a 20 percent increase over last year.

In its fifth annual drive, Central Maryland CAN TOO! made and gathered robes, baby caps and other clothing and household articles, according to Delight Scouten, one of the group's founders.

Recipients are institutionalized patients, the homeless, the dying, entry-level workers and others. Another drive is planned in April.
