Carroll County towns request that children and parents follow the towns' guidelines for Halloween trick or treating. Town regulations are as follows:
Hampstead: Trick or treat night is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Residents should display a light at the door if they welcome a visit.
Manchester: Trick or treat is held 6 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Saturday.
Westminster: Trick or treating by children age 12 and younger, with an adult, should be conducted between dusk and 9 p.m. Saturday. Residents who wish to participate should turn on their outside light.
Children are advised to wear light-colored clothing to be visible to motorists and visit homes in their immediate neighborhoods that have a light on.
Union Bridge: Trick or treat is permitted from 6: 30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
New Windsor: New Windsor does not encourage trick or treating. The officially endorsed activity is the Lion's Club parade and party Friday.
Participants may register starting at 6 p.m. at the old New Windsor Middle School. The parade begins at 7 p.m. and will end at the fire hall.
Judges will select the scariest, funniest and most original costume in the following age groups: age 5 and younger, 6 to 8, 9 to 12, 13 and older, and groups.
Participants will receive treats courtesy of Sulphur Spring Lions Club.
Taneytown: The mayor and council discourage trick or treating. The 21st annual Halloween parade will be held at 6: 30 p.m. tomorrow.
Float judging will be held during the parade. Costume judging will take place after the parade at the carnival grounds. A party for children follows.
Sykesville: Main Street businesses welcome trick or treaters, age 10 and younger, to visit from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Sykesville Business Association also is sponsoring a costume contest for children.
The town allows trick or treating from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Mount Airy: The town encourages trick or treating Halloween night and sets no time limits. Children should only visit homes that have outside lights turned on. Woodbine Recreation Council will sponsor a Halloween party for children age 10 and younger. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Salt Box Ball Park on Gillis Falls Road and include a costume parade and refreshments. Admission is $1 per child.
