Dyslexia will be the subject of programs Wednesday at Borders Books & Music stores across Maryland as a result of a nationwide partnership between the retail chain and the Baltimore-based International Dyslexia Association.

The programs -- presented by parents, teachers and professionals who work with individuals who have the learning disorder -- are scheduled at noon and 7 p.m. at Borders' Bowie store; and at 7 p.m. at the Borders stores in Columbia, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Kensington, Towson and Waldorf.

In the Towson store at 415 York Road, Regina Cicci, director of the Language and Learning Disorders Clinic at the University of Maryland Medical Center, will present "Dyslexia -- Plus and Minus," a seminar on the abilities and disabilities of dyslexic children and adults.

BROOKLANDVILLE -- The Park School will hold its seventh annual early-childhood education conference from 10: 30 a.m. to 3: 15 p.m. Nov. 6 at its Brooklandville campus, 2425 Old Court Road.

Designed for early-childhood educators, preschool and kindergarten teachers, and day care and Head Start providers, the free conference will feature workshops on diverse areas ranging from math and science to "paper engineering and bookbinding" for young children.

The workshops will focus on themes from Making Connections, a national science, mathematics and technology conference that begins the night of Nov. 5 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and continues Nov. 6 and 7 at the Park School, and for which fees vary. Information: 410-339- 7070.
