Towson University men's soccer coach Frank Olszewski broke the school mark for career victories yesterday as the Tigers defeated host New Hampshire, 2-1.

Olszewski's 157th career win broke the record held by National Soccer Hall of Famer Doc Minnegan, who coached at the school from 1927 to 1940 and from 1952 to 1966. The stadium on Towson's campus is named after Minnegan.

Olszewski's record is 157-125-19 in 17 seasons at Towson. Minnegan's record was 156-72-34.

Yesterday's win also was Towson's fifth straight.

Sophomore Adam Lowe scored the winning goal with 23: 34 left as the Tigers (10-5, 6-1) remained tied with Drexel for the lead in America East.

Richie Moller's penalty kick in the 31st minute gave Towson a 1-0 lead before the Wildcats (6-8-1, 3-4) tied the game on a goal by Michael Keeven a little more than three minutes later.

Olszewski's first win came on Sept. 8, 1982, when the Tigers defeated Brooklyn College, 3-0, and he was an interim coach filling in for Rich Bartos. He went 8-9-0 that year.

Three years ago, Olszewski coached the Tigers to a 14-4 record and Top 20 ranking.

Olszewski, 42, played at Patapsco High and then at Johns Hopkins for the Blue Jays' NCAA Division III national semifinalists in 1975.
