Brian Hinkey's goal off a penalty kick in the 52nd minute held up as unranked William and Mary defeated No. 24 Maryland, 1-0, yesterday at Ludwig Field.
Hinkey's goal was set up after a foul on Maryland's Keith Beach.
The Terps (9-5) outshot the Tribe (7-5-1), 19-5, but couldn't solve William and Mary goalkeeper Adin Brown, who recorded six saves.
Salisbury State 2, Mary Washington 0: Rusty Tritsch and Steve Richie each scored second-half goals as the Sea Gulls (9-3-1, 5-1) blanked the host Eagles (6-8, 4-1) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
Dickinson 1, Washington College 0, OT: Todd Arsenault's goal with four minutes left in the extra period lifted the 20th-ranked and host Red Devils (12-2, 4-0) to victory over the Shoremen (6-5, 2-2).
Women's soccer
Navy 3, UMBC 0: Michelle Nance, Katie Moore and Amy Mills each scored a goal as the visiting Midshipmen (12-2) posted their school-record 12th win and fifth straight shutout.
UMBC (8-6) was outshot, 20-5.
Loyola 3, Canisius 1: Kathleen Shields scored two first-half goals in leading the host Greyhounds (7-6, 4-1) to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over the Golden Griffins (7-7, 5-3).
Catholic 4, Goucher 1: The host Cardinals (5-7-3, 1-4-1) used three second-half goals on the way to beating the Gophers (2-9, 0-4) in a CAC game. Nicole Pino scored twice for Catholic.
Field hockey
Maryland 7, Duke 3: Caroline Walter and Keli Smith each scored two goals as the seventh-ranked and host Terps (10-5, 3-1) defeated the No. 9 Blue Devils (7-6, 0-3) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game.
The Terps scored three times in a span of 9: 34 to take a 3-2 halftime lead.
