Taylor says TV ad for Sauerbrey 'grossly misquotes' his stance

THE BALTIMORE SUN

House Speaker Casper R. Taylor Jr. has asked television stations to stop running an ad by Ellen R. Sauerbrey's campaign, saying the commercial "grossly misquotes" him.

Taylor objects to a statement that appears to quote him as saying that Gov. Parris N. Glendening's transportation plan would require a 50-cent-a-gallon increase in the gas tax. "I never said any such thing, and I wouldn't have, because it's not true," Taylor, an Allegany Democrat, said in a letter to the stations.

A spokesman said Sauerbrey has no plan to discontinue the ad.
