County agency receives grant for pond plants

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Carroll County Bureau of Environmental Services has received a grant for $2,752 from the Chesapeake Bay Trust to purchase native wetland plants for a pond at Roberts Field in Hampstead.

The bureau and Carroll County Extension Service will sponsor a planting workday Oct. 17.

The plantings will provide habitat for birds, fish and other native wildlife; give increased water quality by filtering storm-water runoff; and offer aesthetic value.

Volunteers are asked to bring shovels and trowels and waterproof boots.

Refreshments will be provided by McDonald's and Carroll County Master Gardeners.

A free "homework" notebook will be available to the first 50 participants.

Registration is requested.

Information: 410-386-2150 or 410-386-2776.
