Nancy Carolyn Ehrhorn, a registered nurse for more than three decades, died Thursday of a suspected pulmonary embolism at her home in Ellicott City. She was 61.

Born in Baltimore and raised in a log cabin on the Magothy River, the former Nancy Price graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1955 and received a bachelor's degree in nursing from what was then Radford College in Virginia three years later.

She began her career in the early 1960s at Baltimore's Union Memorial Hospital, where she rose quickly to the position of head surgical nurse.

After working briefly in San Francisco, Mrs. Ehrhorn returned to Maryland and was the longtime director of Ridgeway Manor Nursing Home in Catonsville.

From 1992 to 1996, she worked for United Cerebral Palsy of Maryland in Arbutus, caring for people with developmental disabilities. The recipient of a gerontological nursing certification, she was most recently a night supervisor at Copper Ridge in Sykesville.

Mrs. Ehrhorn was a Girl Scout leader, school volunteer, and friend to many of her former patients.

She was also a member of the bell choir at Bethany United Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Lane in Ellicott City, where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer E. Ehrhorn of Ellicott City and Kimberly C. Nupp of Parkton; three brothers, William Price of Sunnyvale, Calif., Thomas Price of Ophelia, Va., and R. Kenneth Price of Tigard, Ore.; a granddaughter; and her former husband, Frank Ehrhorn of Texarkana, Texas.
