Democrat McGuire supports Sauerbrey in governor's race
Dr. Terry McGuire, a Davidsonville physician who lost last month in the Democratic primary race for governor, endorsed Republican Ellen R. Sauerbrey yesterday, saying she would provide an alternative to the "intrusive government championed
by the extreme Democratic left."
McGuire, who picked up 11 percent of the Democratic vote Sept. 15, said he was putting his "entire campaign structure at the disposal of the Sauerbrey campaign." He also lashed out at Gov. Parris N. Glendening for what he called "the arrogance of power."
"Maryland has been ruled too long by another group of Democratic Party insiders and consummate political power brokers whose only agenda is more power, more money, more influence and more control," he said at a news conference in Annapolis.
MPT to carry Oct. 23 debate with Glendening, Sauerbrey
Maryland Public Television will air a debate between Gov. Parris N. Glendening, a Democrat, and Republican Ellen R. Sauerbrey at 9 p.m. Oct. 23 from the University of Maryland, College Park.
It is likely to be their only debate because the two campaigns have been unable to agree on other debate times.
