Suspect charged in 1986 slaying of 6-year-old

Montgomery County police investigating the 1986 slaying of 6-year-old Michelle Lee Dorr yesterday charged a neighbor who is serving 30 years for another murder.

Hadden Irving Clark, 46, formerly of Silver Spring, was charged with first-degree murder yesterday at Montgomery County police headquarters in Rockville.

He was transported last night back to a Hagerstown prison, where he is serving 30 years for the 1992 murder of Laura Bettis Houghteling of Bethesda, said Officer Derek Baliles, a Montgomery County police spokesman.

Baliles said that Clark was charged in a warrant issued shortly after 10 a.m. yesterday. He was then transported to Rockville, where he was questioned by homicide detectives, Baliles said.

Michelle was last seen May 31, 1986 in the back yard of her father's home in the 9100 block of Sudbury Road in Silver Spring.

Her father thought she might be at the home of a neighborhood friend, who was Clark's niece.

Investigators learned that Clark was living with his brother at the time Michelle disappeared.

Police and prosecutors would not discuss the evidence against Clark yesterday or confirm whether the recent DNA tests on blood believed to be Michelle's link him to her death.

Montgomery County State's Attorney Robert Dean said he decided to proceed with charges after obtaining results from a DNA test.
