Police receive grant to fight drunken driving

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A $1,200 grant from the Carroll County Health Department to the Sykesville Police Department will help in the battle against drunk drivers.

The money will pay for breath testers and a drunken-driving simulator.

"We are targeting DUI and DWI motorists," said Pfc. Lee Bradley, a Sykesville officer.

Once officers train with the equipment through the Frederick County Health Department, they plan to develop educational programs and demonstrations for schools.

The town also will purchase a pair of goggles, which simulate what a motorist's vision would be with graduated levels of alcohol.

Fire

Sykesville: Firefighters responded at 7: 55 a.m. Thursday to a fire alarm in the 1600 block of Liberty Road. Units were out 15 minutes.
