Terps blank UMass, 3-0, in field hockey

Sophomores Carla Tagliente and Molly Kauffman had a goal and an assist each as Maryland (6-1) shut out Massachusetts (4-4), 3-0, in the final of the third Terrapin Invitational field hockey tournament yesterday.

The win gave Maryland coach Missy Meharg the school record for career victories, 154. Her teams have lost 62 and tied 9. The old record was held by Sue Tyler, who led the Terps to a 153-86-27 record in 1974-87.

Sophomore goalies Angela Platt and Zoe Ehrlich recorded their third shared shutout of the season.

Men's soccer

Maryland 3, N.C. State 0: Taylor Twellman had two goals and Steve Armas one to lead the Terps (4-1, 1-1) over the host Wolfpack (1-5, 0-1) in an ACC match.

Loyola 3, American 3: Scott Weber and Adam Rosen scored late as American (2-3-2) overcame a 3-1 deficit to tie Loyola (2-3-2) in Richmond, Va.

Andrew Oglivie, Mike Stromberg and Eric Coles scored for Loyola, and Hector Vargas had American's other goal.

Women's soccer

Maryland 5, N.C. State 0: Senior forward Keri Sarver tied a school record with three goals, and senior midfielder Robin McCullough had a goal and two assists to lead the Terps (3-3, 2-1) over the visiting Wolfpack (2-5, 0-2) in an ACC game.
