Isak Dinesen

(1885-1962)

The Danish baroness Karen Christence Dinesen used the pseudonym Isak Dinesen in her writings. She wrote with an insight into supernaturalism with motifs of eros and dreams.

Dinesen married her cousin and lived many years with him in Kenya owning a coffee plantation and hunting big game. She wrote on her experiences in Kenya with her 1937 nonfiction book "Out of Africa," which revealed her love for the continent and its inhabitants.
