Sheriff John W. Anderson and Baltimore's Register of Wills Mary W. Conaway have survived challenges to their candidacies and will remain in their elected offices for the next four years.

Anderson, 51, faced two opponents in Tuesday's Democratic primary, and Conaway faced one. Each won more than 50 percent of the vote.

Anderson, who has been sheriff in Baltimore since 1989, oversees a staff of about 150 deputies. His office's main duties are to provide security at city courthouses and to serve warrants.

Challenging him in the primary election were Beatrice M. Brown and Shelton J. Stewart.

Conaway, 55, whose husband was elected clerk of Baltimore's Circuit Court, said she "loves" the job she has held for 16 years. Her challenger was L. Ramona Moore.

The office handles the estates of deceased people and distributes their assets according to their wills.
