Hot corner

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Quote: "This was like a football game. It was like Oklahoma-Nebraska in the '70s. Whoever got the ball last was going to win." -- Tigers manager Larry Parrish, on Detroit's 17-16 loss in 12 innings to the White Sox Monday.

It's a fact: The Royals produced a rarity Monday by becoming the first team since 1964 to score at least one run in every inning.

Who's hot: Entering last night's game, White Sox rookie Craig Wilson was 13-for-25 (.520) with three home runs and eight RBIs since being called up from the minors on Sept. 5.

Who's not: The Twins' Frank Rodriguez lost his fourth straight start yesterday. He allowed six runs -- three earned -- on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He has a 12.86 ERA during his current losing streak.

On deck: The Mariners' Ken Griffey needs one more stolen base to join Willie Mays (1955) and Brady Anderson (1996) as the only players with 50 homers and 20 steals in a season.
