Cetewayo appears uninjured after fall

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Cetewayo, the outstanding turf runner based in Maryland, suffered no apparent injuries when he fell and crashed to the ground Saturday in the Man O'War Stakes at Belmont Park.

Michael Dickinson, who trains the 4-year-old colt, said yesterday from his Tapeta Farm in North East: "At the moment he appears to be 100 percent. But we won't really know for three or four days."

Viewers watching on ESPN couldn't tell exactly what happened. Dickinson said Cetewayo, accelerating around the far turn, was forced into the hedge, which serves as the inner rail, and stumbled.

Dickinson said that jockey John Velazquez, who was rushed to the hospital, also appeared to be OK.

If Cetewayo develops no problems from the fall, he will resume his schedule of the Turf Classic Invitational on Oct. 10 at Belmont Park and the Breeders' Cup Turf on Nov. 7 at Churchill Downs.
