Rangers update

Every game is critical for the Rangers, who remain one behind Anaheim in the AL West. First baseman Will Clark fractured a toe on his right foot when hit by a pitch from Tampa Bay's Julio Santana on Saturday, and his status is uncertain. He's batting .305 with 22 homers and 97 RBIs. Juan Gonzalez is 25-for-51 (.490) with four homers and 15 RBIs in his past 13 games. Former Oriole Todd Zeile was 13-for-39 (.333) with six doubles and a triple in his past 10 games before yesterday, when he went 0-for-3. The Rangers have a league-leading .290 batting average, but their 5.06 ERA is the second highest in the AL. However, their ERA was 3.89 in 10 September games before yesterday, and their starters were 6-1 with a 2.72 ERA in the past 11 games. The bullpen had lost seven of its past nine decisions and blown three of its past five save opportunities. Sele has been abused by the Orioles in two previous starts.
