Sykesville to request zoning waiver to develop 131-acre Warfield Complex

Sykesville will ask the Carroll County Planning Commission tomorrow for a zoning waiver that will allow for development of the Warfield Complex.

The town annexed the 131-acre property, once part of Springfield Hospital Center, from the state last year. Without a waiver, Warfield would have to keep its agricultural zoning for five years, a designation that might restrict development.

The town, which plans to restore the 15 century-old buildings at the complex as an employment campus, is asking for mixed-used zoning. The planning commission makes recommendations on zoning changes to the County Commissioners, who will make the final decision.
