Tutors Needed

Area schools, libraries and literacy programs use volunteers to help children and adults improve reading skills. Among them are:

Waverly Family Center, 829 Montpelier St., to work one-on-one with elementary school students. Hours are 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: Jean Pollitt, 410-235-0555.

Greater Homewood Adult Literacy Program, 3501 N. Charles St., which serves those age 18 and older with one-on-one and small-group instruction in reading, writing, math and English for speakers of other languages. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Contact: Joanne Egan, 410-889-7927.
